History of the World - Chapter One: Millennium Players

Birth of Millennium Players

The formation of Millennium Players began when Michelle Beaudry and Mel Stewart decided to start a new theatre company.  Michelle brought together several people with theatrical experience and who were keen on mounting a stage production.  This group included Steven Burridge, Nora Criss, Barb Dramer, Chris Foster and Cailin Green.

Because the yet nameless group had no funds to finance a production it was obvious the first priority was to raise some cash. Since it was apparent that this group was comprised of people who were musically talented it was resolved that a musical revue be created to accomplish this. Mel knew a bit about Bev Morrison's musical background and invited her to become a member.  Happily she agreed and has remained their musical guru ever since.

The musical revue performed in a dinner theatre setting raised a few dollars but the group had to rely on their credit cards to get their first production, Opening Night, on stage at the Evergreen Theatre.  It would take three seasons before everyone was reimbursed in full. Millennium Players has been staging plays and musical revues ever since.  In 2003 they presented Cinderella, their first Christmas pantomime. This is now an annual event.

Originally envisioned as a small acting troupe Millennium Players continues to attract members who are talented in all aspects of theatre.  Their labors of love along with the unflagging efforts of the founding members are reasons to be optimistic about the future.
